FARM OWNERS

A farmowners policy is a packaged property-and-liability product for farms — essentially a homeowners policy scaled up to farm and ranch exposures. It typically bundles:

Dwelling and Farm Structures — the farmhouse, barns, silos, garages, equipment sheds and other outbuildings, usually at separate limits set per structure.

Household Contents/Farm Property — furniture and personal belongings in the home, plus farm machinery, tools, tack, feed, grain, livestock and growing crops (often with sub-limits or optional endorsements for the higher-value items).

Personal and Farm Liability — bodily injury or property damage the insured is legally liable for, from both residential life and farm operations (a visitor injured by a tractor, hired-hand incidents, livestock wandering onto a road).

Farm Medical Payments — small no-fault payments to someone injured on the premises regardless of fault.

Loss of Use — additional living expenses if the home is unfit to live in, and sometimes extra expense to keep the farm operating after a covered loss.

Common endorsements extend it to things like custom farming or agritourism operations, livestock mortality, and higher liability limits. Typical exclusions are business/professional activities beyond the farm, intentional acts, and losses from conditions the farm is required to maintain.
